Peritus thanks Nashville Kiwanis Club
I want to thank the Nashville Kiwanis Club for inviting me to speak to their group on Friday at the Maxwell House Hotel. Lauren Reed and Katie Adkisson from our Nashville team joined me for a great lunch with some wonderful people. Special thanks to Missy Acosta for introducing me to the audience. You can visit their website at: www.kiwanisofnashville.org They have a pretty cool fundraising raffle going on as well – they are giving away a Corvette! Next week they get another Kentuckian to entertain them – NASCAR legend Darrell Waltrip is their speaker.
Here’s an excerpt of my remarks. I shared some of my White House experiences with the group, and made some observations about politics and public service:
“…Yes, that actually happened. Someone actually took time out of their day to write me an email to say they wanted to execute me. But, despite the encouragement of my friends on the left, I never considered for a moment that public service isn’t worth it. It is worth it. When people ask me today about my experience in The White House and in politics, I strive—especially to college students and younger people considering a political career—to stress that it is worth it. If too many of our best and brightest decide that public service isn’t worth it, that civic duty is not important, we will wind up with a government of the mediocre. We will wind up with a government full of people who are there for the wrong reasons. We will wind up with a government that will be utterly objectionable to us all…”
