 LOUISVILLE, KY (October 5, 2007) - J. Scott Jennings, Special Assistant to President George W. Bush, has joined Peritus Public Relations as Director of Strategic Development.
A direct advisor to the President, Jennings also served as a deputy to Senior Advisor Karl Rove for personnel and political affairs at the White House. He served as a liaison for Members of Congress, state and local officials, and key business, political and community leaders nationwide. Jennings was promoted to his current position; his first job at the White House was as a political affairs liaison for 11 southern states, including Kentucky and Tennessee.
As Director of Strategic Development at Peritus, Jennings will leverage his experience to provide top-level strategic communications counsel for clients and continue to grow the firm’s national client base. Before joining the White House in January 2005, Jennings managed President Bush’s 2004 re-election campaign in New Mexico, which was one of only two states to flip in Bush’s favor from ’00 to ’04. He maintains relationships with a range of New Mexico leaders today.

Jennings’ career began in his native Kentucky, first as a journalist for WHAS Radio and the Kentucky News Network, and then as a political operative. Jennings directed the political operations for three successful statewide campaigns: President Bush’s 2000 campaign, Senator Mitch McConnell’s 2002 reelection, and Governor Ernie Fletcher’s 2003 campaign. Jennings also served as a spokesman and senior advisor to the Republican Party of Kentucky, as well as press secretary to Kentucky Senate President David L. Williams.
Prior to entering politics, Jennings was a broadcast journalist in Louisville, Ky., and won an award from the Associated Press for an investigative report on the plight of the homeless in downtown Louisville. A native of Dawson Springs, Ky., Jennings graduated with a B.A. in political science from the University of Louisville’s McConnell Center for Political Leadership where he was elected chairman by his peers.
