Current Position:
Scott Jennings is Senior Strategist of Public Affairs for Peritus, providing top-level communications counsel. Scott oversees the firm’s Public Affairs portfolio and is a key member of the Crisis Communications practice.
Scott has been a strategist at the highest levels of American politics. He spent nearly three years in The White House as an advisor to President George W. Bush, handling myriad issues and offering counsel on challenging political matters. Scott has earned the respect of some of the country's most powerful leaders, including Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell who called Scott "a talented Kentuckian.”
Before Peritus:
Scott served as Special Assistant to the President and Deputy White House Political Director from 2005-2007, working directly with White House Senior Advisor Karl Rove. He served as liaison for members of Congress, state and local officials, and key business, political and community leaders nationwide, in addition to advising the President on personnel matters, political issues, and his travel within the United States. Before he joined the White House staff, President Bush's re-election campaign asked Scott to move to New Mexico to manage its efforts there in 2004. Scott and his team flipped New Mexico from blue-to-red, one of only two states to go that way between 2000 and 2004. Scott’s efforts caught the attention of the White House, landing him in Washington. In 2008, Scott served as Senior Communications Advisor to Senator Mitch McConnell’s reelection campaign, and as Senior Strategist to Congressman Brett Guthrie’s successful campaign in Kentucky’s Second District.
Scott is actively engaged in his community. He serves on the Board of Trustees for Alice Lloyd College, a widely-respected private university serving students in Appalachia. Additionally, Scott serves on the Board of Directors of the Colon Cancer Prevention Project. In 2008, Scott was named by Business First of Louisville as one of the city’s Top 40 Citizens Under the Age of 40. Scott also serves on the Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Kentucky and is widely sought after by national, regional, and local media for comment on current events and political affairs. You can frequently find Scott on WHAS television and radio, Kentucky Educational Television, and quoted in various newspapers as an authority on American politics.
Scott's professional career began in his native Kentucky, first as a journalist for WHAS Radio and the Kentucky News Network and then as a political operative. He directed the political operations for three successful statewide campaigns: President Bush's 2000 campaign, Senator McConnell's 2002 re-election, and former Governor Ernie Fletcher's 2003 campaign. Scott also served as spokesman and senior advisor to the Republican Party of Kentucky, as well as press secretary to Kentucky Senate President David L. Williams.
Additional Information:
A native of Dawson Springs, Ky., Scott graduated with a B.A. in political science from the University of Louisville's McConnell Center for Political Leadership where he was elected chairman by his peers. As a broadcast journalist in Louisville, Ky., he won an award from the Associated Press for an investigative report on the plight of the homeless in downtown Louisville. Scott studied abroad in China, and also served as a U.S. government election monitor in Serbia's 2007 parliamentary elections.
