What Does "Peritus" Mean?

We get asked a lot about the root of Peritus. It’s a longer story best told over a cold beverage, but in short, we inherited our name from a previous sister agency based out of Louisville.

Many times over our 10-year history we have considered updating our brand, but as we have grown into our identity as a firm we realize that the name Peritus is part of our story and runs deep within our DNA. We have learned to embrace it for sharing where we come from, and exemplifying where we are headed as the firm of the future.

Peritus translates to skilled teacher in Latin.

Guided by a teach-first mentality, we live out our purpose by helping organizations expand their mission.

We all had our favorite teacher growing up… they had a way of giving you the tools and confidence to succeed well beyond the classroom. A true example of a life-long learner.

As trusted advisors for our clients’ leadership teams, we partner together to build roadmaps, coach executives, tell stories and inspire action. Our team is the first phone call when the going gets tough, ensuring we equip our clients to navigate every crossroad with confidence and clarity. If our team isn’t the right fit, we have built a deep network of agency partners and freelancers to support more specialized needs.

Why? Because when the stakes are high, communications matters.

We help connect our clients with the right people, partners and processes needed to accomplish goals. These clients know where Peritus brings value and make a case for our role.

The inner teacher and coach in each of us shines through our name. The name Peritus was meant to be as we use our gifts to move Alabama forward.

Here are a few of our team’s “whys” behind our passion for the teaching side of our role:

Erin

Vogt

“Personally, and professionally, I’ve had many mentors teach me skills needed to navigate life challenges I wasn’t equipped for. When I can do that for others in my role as a communicator, it’s incredibly fulfilling.”

Sally Goodloe

“I love embracing my inner teacher to help mentor and give valuable tips to students as they enter the next stage of their career - just as mentors did for me.”

Eliza Heidelberg

"I come from a long line of teachers and love that I'm able to combine my love of communicating with my natural teaching gifts."

T.C. McLemore

“One of my mentors would frequently quote Robert Coles (who was quoting Walker Percy’s Moviegoer) when he wrote that in life, ‘we hand one another along.’”

Hanlon Walsh

“No matter the stage of your career, it’s easy to discount your experience and fool yourself into thinking others know the same things you do. We all have our own unique insights and teaching style to offer someone else, and the more we step into the spotlight to share those with others, the stronger leaders and mentors we can become.”

Bella

Tylicki

"We've all heard the age-old phrase, 'Those who can't do, teach,' but I believe teaching is the best way to hone your craft and demonstrate expertise. When I studied for tests in school, I felt prepared if I could effectively explain the subject to a friend, such that they would perform well on the test too. Teaching makes me better at what I do."

Casey Stark

“I love helping people get to their ‘light bulb moment.’”

Cole Lanier

"I've been so blessed to have people teach me things every step of my career, and I wouldn't be where I am without those people. By giving back and teaching people newer in their careers, I hope I can continue that 'Line of Learning' for them to achieve great things.”
